Dark Romanticism...

I fall on the divide of being a transcendentalism because i do not think that people should just act like animals and not have respect for anyone else and just be plain evil. That's not the way anyone should be towards anyone else, and i don't think that I'm that way at all you should treat others the why you would like to be treated all the time even if you don't like the person still respect them up to the point they respect you.





I thought the story "The Masque of Red Death" One connection I noticed between Dark Romantic authors is their attention, detail and elaboration on the bizarre. In the Masque of the Red Death, the metaphors continue and I was analyzing different situations into meaningful symbols or ideas. One good example would be the description of the rooms."The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue."Although seemingly realistic. One speculation I have is each room represents different emotions or feelings.In the few pieces of Poe's literature I've read, I've noticed there is always an object, or symbol, that represents something deeper. This object is usually unrealistic. In this case, I would mean the masked figure in The Masque of the Red Death. You would obviously need a good imagination to read about the masked figure, who is described as a corpse, because at the end his outfit turns out to be empty. To me there is no one in the world who is good and pure.

So this is an example of dark romanticism because they believed that the transcendentalists were crazy for thinking that everyone was pure and good. This story is kind of mocking or making fun of transcendentalists because transcendentalists, in a dark romantic’s mind, are trying to ignore the fact that there is evil. By having this prince lock everyone in his castle and party because of this disease or whatever, they are saying that the prince and his people are just going to try and ignore the disease and run away and have a party.



"The Raven"
Throughtout this story he thought somebody was at his door tapping but would never go away. " "Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door - Some late visitor entresting entrance at my chamber door; - " This is at one point where smoebody is still at his door and he thinks its nothing more but the person want leave that keep knocking but nobody seem to be at door but at the end they keep saying "Nothing more" and im thinking that is meaning who the soul is at the door but don't pay any attention because its nothing to serious just a mind thing but nothing more.
When he says "Darkness there, and nothing more." It seem like that all he can see is darkness and nothing more because its the Raven and nothing more at the door. Nothing seems to appear at the door. Even though he still stood their in fear trying to figuar out but still could not figure the voice out or the mystery explore.
To me its anti-Transcendental because its evil soul and doing its evil ways. "But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling." To me it kind of seems like after the bird knocks at the door with its evil way he still punish the man and continue doing the say thing that it is doing as before.

Civil Disobedience... "Transcendentalism"

The three sections to me were all good and interesting because they all were about how he didn't like the government and what they believed i and what they had chosen the laws to be because THOREAU believed in a lot of different things and did not want to listen to the government because they were making the world a place that is not to livable.
The people should try and make the world a better place, but i don't think that you should just disobey you're government because you have to go by there rules in order to stay out of trouble and be equal with everyone around them, but they could try to fight and try to get better laws that they want to go by.
Section 1
"One's duties are inextricable from the world one lives in."
This piece of writing interests me because he specifically talks about how the people should disobey the government and do what they believe in because the government doesn't always have laws that that others believe in.
Section 2
"He says that he himself would never want to think himself dependent on the State's protection."
This one is more of saying that the rich would not have so much civil disobedience. He believes that because they are not thanking about what they should do to make the world or anything else better, they are worrying about material things and themselves.
Section 3
"One that respects the individual and will even allow people to live independently of the state."
This talks more of people ability of changing the world and making it a better place. He want people to do that because they are not trying to all they want to do what they want and not realize that some of the things they do effects the world in a bad way and they should try and improve the world.
(these are good examples of transcendentalism...)

NATURE...
Reading the writing of Nature by Emerson opened my mind to the way nature works. From the way nature is in order from a seed becoming a pant, and that into a tree, and the tree dies and fertilizes the ground. By this it shows me how the world cycles, and you will learn that if something has been born it will eventually die and the cycle will continue .
I was reading and i came across something that really caught my attention it said, “The stars awaken a certain reverence, because thought always present, they are always inaccessible.” This makes me fell that they are talking about when we see a star that we are awaken by the things that are not that positive in our lives, and all of the sins that we have committed. We are basically always concerned.

SELF-RELIANCE...
In the passage he is mainly trying to say that the men should trust themselves and not make there decisions off of what everyone else opinion is and that there decision matters just as much as everyone else. Your heart will guide you in the right direction.
These are everyday life situations and people learn how to deal with them eventually, the hard way or someones help.

American Romanticism

The beginning of the story is very descriptive on the Catskill Mountains. Nature plays a role in the story as romanticism because as his wife is nagging him he turns to the land as an escape of freedom. He admires the beauty of it and has no worries.

Another one could be when rip van winkle is walking in the mountains he sees a group of men having a party so he approaches and gets drunk and sleeps for 20 years.

I think the Thanatopsis poem is saying that you shouldn't be afraid of dying. It gives good detail to try and comfort who are afraid. I like when it say that even the kings and the most powerful people will go to the same place because then people were always reluctant on power and thinking because they had money they would go somewhere special. The romantic part of this poem is that it's talking about nature throughout the entire poem with imagination.

I think that the point of this poem is that someone is thinking about how many ways you van use a rope and what to use it for. The beginning of the poem is interesting because of the way the building is being described inside. I think that this poem is romantic because their is someone that is in a place they don't want to be and their daydreaming a million ways to use a rope outside of where they are.

The painting could be considered Romanticism because of the way they have the dark colors mixed in with other colors and that shows the emotion.
